My Approach

Excellent health results from balance: among bodily processes, between the mind and body, and between oneself and one’s environment. When your body is in balance, you will feel and project more energy and vitality.

Human bodies are fascinating, dynamic, and unfathomably complex systems. Though conventional medicine seeks simple answers, chronic disease and persistent symptoms rarely have a single cause or remedy. Rather, like the straw that breaks the camel’s back, disease occurs when the negative forces acting on the body exceed the body’s ability to adapt. Symptoms develop when systems within the body have lost balance. This is true whether you experience high blood pressure, Lyme disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, chronic fatigue, or an auto-immune illness.

Restoring balance does not mean separately addressing each symptom with a pill, treatment, or surgery, racking up a long list of prescriptions and hospitalizations. Healing through balance requires searching for a common cause and addressing that cause, rather than addressing each problem as though they exist separate from one another. Medicines, supplements, procedures, and habitual changes are part of the process, but must be properly targeted to truly relieve strain on your body, not mask its effects. Furthermore, prioritizing the fundamentals of life is often as important as any ‘standard’ treatment option. Outdoor light, fresh air, colorful food, clean water, movement, and finding ways to experience joy and connection are often as important as anything medicine can do or prescribe.

My goal is to help you feel as strong and alive as you can. My starting place is always to listen, to understand what keeps you from experiencing your full capacity, to know what motivates you and gives your life meaning. Together we will make a plan to move you toward better and better health. The plan will need to be reconsidered if you do not feel you can follow it, or if it does not lead to the improvement we expect. I do not have any one-size-fits-all answers, any expensive supplements to sell you, or any procedures by which I will profit. I do have these three things: decades of experience helping chronically ill patients return to health, a strong commitment to learning, and a deep faith in the healing capacity of the body.
